Frequently asked questions

Which Garmin promotions are running right now?
The Avionics page lists every current Garmin promotion with its end date; each one drops off the page automatically when it expires.
Do you install Garmin equipment I bought elsewhere?
Call us first. Dealer-installed equipment carries the full Garmin warranty and qualifies for Garmin rebates; equipment bought elsewhere may not.
How long does a panel upgrade take?
A GFC 500 autopilot or a single GTN is typically a few days on the floor; a full TXi or G1000 NXi retrofit is measured in weeks. We give a written estimate with a schedule before any work starts.
Is a Garmin installation done under your Part 145 certificate?
On the aircraft in our FAA capability list — Beechcraft Bonanza/Baron and 19/23/24, Piper PA-28, Cessna 208, Cirrus, Diamond and Epic — yes, as an airframe alteration using the latest STC installation manual. On other aircraft the installation is performed as Part 91 maintenance by our FAA-certificated A&P and IA mechanics. The required transponder and pitot-static certifications afterwards are repair-station work on every listed make.

Part 145 and Part 91 — who signs the work

Islander Aviation (BMV Air Center LLC) is an FAA Part 145 repair station, certificate 6KFR481C, with limited airframe, engine, instrument and radio ratings. Our FAA-accepted Capability List (Rev. 8, 29 September 2026) covers airframe inspections, repairs and alterations on Beechcraft, Piper, Cessna, Cirrus, Diamond Aircraft, Epic Aircraft aircraft; inspections and minor repair of Lycoming, Continental, Austro Engine, Pratt & Whitney Canada engines; and pitot-static, transponder, ADS-B and ELT certifications on the listed makes. Overhauls are not performed under the certificate.

Anything not covered under our Part 145 capability list — King Air, Citation and Pilatus airframes, for example — is still performed by Islander Aviation, as Part 91 maintenance signed off by our FAA-certificated A&P and IA mechanics. Engine overhauls are coordinated with a specialist engine shop.
