Frequently asked questions
- Is a diesel aircraft engine serviced differently from an avgas engine?
- Yes. Continental's diesels are FADEC-controlled, geared, turbocharged Jet-A engines with their own inspection intervals and life-limited parts. Authorized service centers have the training, tooling and parts access those engines need.
- Do you work on Austro diesel engines too?
- Yes — see the Diamond page. Austro Engine AE300 experience is part of our Diamond work, although Austro is not an OEM authorization.
- My diesel engine shows a FADEC warning. What should I do?
- Do not fly it until it has been looked at. Call 561-288-0807; we can read the engine's fault memory and tell you what it means.
- Is diesel engine work done under your Part 145 certificate?
- Yes. Continental CD-135/155/170/300 and IO-240 are on our FAA-accepted Capability List (Rev. 8) under the limited engine rating: inspections, minor repair and minor alteration. Engine overhaul is excluded; TBR exchanges are coordinated with Continental.
Part 145 and Part 91 — who signs the work
Islander Aviation (BMV Air Center LLC) is an FAA Part 145 repair station, certificate 6KFR481C, with limited airframe, engine, instrument and radio ratings. Our FAA-accepted Capability List (Rev. 8, 29 September 2026) covers airframe inspections, repairs and alterations on Beechcraft, Piper, Cessna, Cirrus, Diamond Aircraft, Epic Aircraft aircraft; inspections and minor repair of Lycoming, Continental, Austro Engine, Pratt & Whitney Canada engines; and pitot-static, transponder, ADS-B and ELT certifications on the listed makes. Overhauls are not performed under the certificate.
Anything not covered under our Part 145 capability list — King Air, Citation and Pilatus airframes, for example — is still performed by Islander Aviation, as Part 91 maintenance signed off by our FAA-certificated A&P and IA mechanics. Engine overhauls are coordinated with a specialist engine shop.
